American Idol returns to Fox for the 14th season of the show on Wednesday night, with Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. returning as judges again.
Despite previous years of judges not getting along, Lopez maintains their relationship for the cameras is genuine.
"Look, if we had to B.S. and pretend we were friends, we would do it because that is part of what our job is," Connick began to tell People before Lopez interjected, "…But we don't have to!"
He agreed, saying, "My single favorite part of doing this job is sitting next to Jen and Keith. It's a good feeling."
Urban continued to say they don’t get sick of each after putting in long hours while they film.
“We can spend 11 or 12 hours a day together – day after day after day," he said. "Tempers can flare when you get in those conditions, but I get along so well with [Harry and Jennifer]. I still look forward to seeing them. You can't say that about the people you work with all the time."
Ryan Seacrest returns as host, who has been with the show since the first season. Another mainstay, Randy Jackson, left the show but his replacement as mentor was announced as Scott Borchetta, the CEO of country music label Big Machine Records.
