Over two years after she was tearfully pushed out of the Today Show co-anchor slot, Ann Curry is reportedly finally leaving NBC News.

The news was first reported by the New York Post and has also been reported by The New York Daily News and TheWrap, citing sources close to the situation. Each site is expecting NBC to make a formal announcement at any time.

Since Curry was pushed out of the Today Show in June 2012, Curry has not done much at the network. She has been used as a foreign correspondent, but her work has been very limited.

“Ann has been unhappy for a long time because she’s basically doing nothing, while NBC is unhappy that she has been paid a lot of money to do nothing,” a source for the Post said.

The Today Show is still trying to recover from the backlash faced for pushing Curry out. The show has fallen behind Good Morning America in the ratings and there were recently rumors that another shake-up was coming. Josh Horowitz was hired to oversee the morning news show, but was fired after two months, reportedly because he had suggested major changes.

Curry’s complete departure from NBC News had been worked out during weeks-long talks, the Post reported. She is expected to start her own production company to make documentaries and could continue her relationship with NBC. However, she will also be able to shop her work to other networks.
