The Arizona Diamondbacks have announced that they will be retiring pitching great Randy Johnson’s number.

The announcement came after Johnson was elected to the Hall of Fame last week.

CBS Sports noted that Diamondbacks’ president Derrick Hall said the team will retire No. 51 at some point in 2015.

The Big Unit spent 22 seasons in the majors and played for six different teams. He spent eight years with the D-Backs, which is the only team he won a ring with.

Johnson had so many great moments during his long career including pitching a no-hitter against the Detroit Tigers in 1990 when he was a member of the Seattle Mariners. And in 2004, when he pitched a perfect game while with the Diamondbacks against the Atlanta Braves.

Fans in Arizona will also always cherish his dominate pitching performance in the 2001 World Series against the New York Yankees. In Game 2, the left-hander struck out 11 in a 3-hit shutout. Then, in Game 6, pitched seven innings to a victory before being called upon the very next night in relief and getting the win in Game 7.

There is another moment from 2001 that immediately comes to mind as well when you think of Johnson and that is during a spring training game when he accidentally vaporized a dove. After collective crowd gasps and everyone who witnessed it caught their breath, the umpire gave an official “no-pitch” call.
