Bill Cosby, who has a home in Massachusetts, will not be performing in Worcester next month. However, his shows in Boston are still on the schedule.
Cosby was supposed to perform at the Hanover Theatre in Worcester on Feb. 6. However, reps for the venue told the Telegram & Gazette that the show has been cancelled, after an agreement between the promoter and Cosby’s agent.
“He has apparently come to an agreement with Bill Cosby's agent to do so," Troy Siebels, the CEO of the Hanover Theater, told the paper. "I do think we are relieved. It's not a situation anybody wanted to be in, but our image in the community means a lot to us and I know that there are those who will be relieved not to see him appear here."
Siebels said that tickets will be refunded. Wanda Sykes is set to perform there on May 15, so theater management is offering an exchange for that show before tickets are available on Jan. 20.
Only 1,300 of the 2,300 tickets for the Cosby show had been sold.
Cosby still lists the date on his site. He is also scheduled to perform at the Wilbur Theater in Boston on Feb. 8. Those dates are still on the schedule.
The former Cosby Show star did three shows in Ontario, Canada last week and was heckled during the performances. During Friday night’s show in Hamilton, protesters yelled “We believe the women!” after he started performing.
Cosby is facing accusations from over 20 women that he sexually assaulted and drugged them. His lawyers have continued to deny these claims.
