A jury for the Aaron Hernandez murder trial has been selected, but a massive winter storm expected to bear down on the Northeast will delay opening statements.
The Associated Press noted that the judge presiding over the trial of the former New England Patriots star said the statements will not get underway until at least Thursday because of the impending storm. And, depending on how much snow the area actually gets will determine if the trial proceedings will be delayed even longer.
Bristol County Superior Court Judge Susan Garsh announced that a jury of five men and 13 woman have been selected. Of those 18, six will be randomly chosen as alternates.
Hernandez is accused of murdering semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd, 27, in June 2013. The victim was found shot to death in an industrial park near Hernandez’s home in North Attleboro, Massachusetts.
As previously reported, this is the first of two murder trials for the ex-NFL tight end. He is also accused of fatally shooting two men outside a Boston nightclub in 2012 after they allegedly bumped the athlete inside.
A date for that trial has not been set.
The 25-year-old has plead not guilty to the charges against him.
