The New Jersey High School that was hit with hazing allegations three months ago, which led to the cancelation of its football season, has decided to resume play in the 2015 season.
The Home News Tribune reported that on Tuesday evening, Sayreville School Superintendent Rick Labbe announced that football activities would begin again for the upcoming season.
"I believe very strongly after the last several months that football is a very important part of our athletic programs and our community and therefore, in consultation with our Board of Education, I am pleased to announce to you this evening that we will have a 2015 football season," Labbe said. "I commend the Board and the community for their continued, unwavering support."
As NJ.com noted, in October, Sayreville War Memorial High School was rocked by hazing allegations in which seven members of the football team were charged with sexually assaulting four teammates.
After the allegations surfaced, the team’s head coach was suspended from his psychical education teaching position and the football program was canceled.
The coach remains suspended indefinitely and the accused players will be tried in juvenile court.
The Sayreville Bombers have been a top-notch football program in the state of New Jersey earning several consecutive playoff berths and winning three consecutive NJSIAA sectional titles.
