Just a few days after fining its Supergirl, CBS has found its Jimmy Olsen.
The network has cast former Necessary Roughness star Mehcad Brooks as a new version of Clark Kent’s trusty photographer. According to The Los Angeles Times, in Supergirl, Jimmy will be a staffer at a media company known as CatCo (which might be a wink to Superman fans who remember the name of the Daily Planet’s gossip columnist).
Supergirl herself will be played by Melissa Benoist, who starred on Glee and can be seen in Whiplash.
The series will begin with a 24-year-old Kara Zor-El finally embracing the super powers she shares with her famous cousin to help save the world. Her day job is at CatCo with Jimmy, who is living in National City now for a mysterious reason.
Arrow’s Greg Berlanti is writing with Chuck’s Ali Adler.Sarah Schechter (Pan) is an executive producer. It will be produced by Warner Bros. TV.
If Supergirl gets picked up, it would ensure that three of the four broadcast networks will have DC properties. NBC has Constantine, while Fox currently has Gotham. Both Arrow and The Flash air on The CW, which will also air Vertigo’s iZombie in March.
Brooks also appeared on True Blood and Desperate Housewives.
