Matthew McConaughey made his film debut in Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused, saying “Alright, alright, alright” all the way into cinema history. With both Linklater and McConaughey still major forces in film over two decades later, it’s fascinating to see their early work.

The Criterion Collection included McConaughey’s audition for Dazed on its Blu-ray and DVD editions, but the boutique home video label posted it on YouTube this week, so it’s making the Internet rounds.

In the clip, McConaughey delivers a few of his famous lines from the film and is seen interacting with Wiley Wiggins, who plays Mitch Kramer in the film.

Of course, McConaughey is now one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, especially after winning an Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club. As for Linklater, he just won the Golden Globe for directing and could be nominated for an Oscar for Boyhood. Earlier today, he was nominated for the DGA Award.
