Cinemax has finally started to come into itself, moving itself beyond being HBO and Showtime's little brother, during the past couple years. A big thanks for that comes from their hit series Banshee, Strike Back and, most especially, last year's The Knick. So it is no surprise Cinemax will continue their good fortunes on each as they announce their 2015 line-up.
As revealed in a press release, Banshee premieres its ten-episode third season tomorrow at 10 p.m. Created by novelist Jonathan Tropper and David Schickler, the Emmy-winning series focuses on Lucas Hood (Antony Starr), a master thief and ex-con who assumes the identity of the sheriff in small-town Banshee, PA. Executive producers include Alan Ball, Peter Macdissi, Greg Yaitanes and Tropper. It was renewed for a third season last year.
Meanwhile, Strike Back returns for its fourth and final season this summer. The series' last episodes finds Damien Scott (Sullivan Stapleton) and Michael Stonebridge (Philip Winchester), along with the rest of Section 20, enlisted to crack a missing-persons case in Bangkok. Produced by Michael Casey and Sharon Hughff, alongside executive producers Andy Harries for Left Bank Pictures Productions and Cameron Roach for British Sky Broadcasting Limited and co-executive producer Michael J. Bassett, Strike Back is among the first Cinemax productions to make a name for the station.
The Knick, meanwhile, returns with its ten-episode second season this fall. Once again, Academy Award-winning director Steven Soderbergh directs every episode this season. The show centers on Dr. John W. Thackery (Clive Owen) as he and his staff in the Knickerbocker Hospital in New York City during 1900 push the boundaries of modern medicine. Considering where the series left off during its season finale, it'll be interesting to see where show creators Jack Amiel and Michael Begler take this acclaimed series. Check out our recaps for what we considered one of 2014's underrated shows.
