Indianapolis Colts backup linebacker Josh McNary has denied allegations that he raped and injured a woman after charges were filed against him.
The Indianapolis Star reported that McNary was taken into custody on Wednesday evening. Court documents state that he has been charged with one count of rape, one count of criminal confinement and one count of battery.
A 29-year-old woman alleged that after a night of drinking she found herself at the athlete’s residence and when she went to lie down, McNary forced himself on her. She told investigators that they got into a scuffle and he raped her. She then said that she left the apartment and went to a hospital for a sex-assault exam.
On Thursday morning, McNary's attorney, Edward F. Schrager, put out a statement that said his client has denied those allegations.
The Colts also released a statement saying that the team was aware of the allegations against the 26-year-old and he was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list for this week’s game.
The Colts take on the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday.
McNary, who played college ball at Army, has been with Indianapolis since returning from military duty in 2013. He has 30 tackles in 20 games over the past two seasons, Pro-Football-Reference.com noted.
