It seems the honeymoon in Philadelphia is finally over. Eagles head coach Chip Kelly's future is now being pondered after the firing of vice president of personnel Tom Gamble.
According to NJ.com, the Eagles announced the firing of Gamble with a two sentence team statement.
"We thank Tom for his service over the past two seasons and wish him and his family the best as they move forward," said Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said in a statement. "I appreciate all Tom has done for our scouting department and our team."
Rumors of a power struggle between Kelly and Roseman started to come about towards of the end of the season, but now after Kelly's closest confidant in Gamble has been fired, a lot more questions need to be asked.
Gamble was Kelly's closest friend in the organization and one person who he'd turn to when something was needed.
Pro Football Talk is reporting that serious issues are no plaguing the organization regarding Kelly and Roseman.
The fact that Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie allowed Roseman to fire Gamble tells us a lot about this situation. It means Roseman has Lurie's ear and is the second in charge in the organization over Kelly.
On multiple occasions in the past Kelly has stated that he alone has control over the 53-man roster. Now it seems the young Roseman has complete authority over all things football in Philadelphia.
Stay tuned to see how this drama unfolds. One thing is for sure: nobody saw this coming a month ago when the team sat with a 9-3 record before losing three of their last four games and missing out on the playoffs.
