Dianne Wiest is a two-time Oscar winner, a former star on Law & Order and an acclaimed actress, but all that is not enough to pay her rent. Buried in a New York Times interview this weekend was the revelation that she may have to move out of her apartment because she’s not getting enough roles.
Wiest was interviewed alongside Tonya Pinkins, who stars in Rasheeda Speaking with her. The New Group production, directed by Cynthia Nixon, will start previews on Tuesday.
In the interview, Wiest said that she has struggled to find good roles in movies and the lack of work makes it hard for her to pay her rent. “I have to move out of my apartment soon,” she said.
Earlier, she tells the Times that after she won her Oscars, she became typecast as “a nice mom and that’s it.” She added, “That’s all that ever came, except in theater.”
Wiest won her Oscars for her supporting roles in two Woody Allen movies, Hannah And Her Sisters and Bullets Over Broadway. However, she has not been in a movie since the 2012 Disney film The Odd Life of Timothy Green. She is set to appear in Sisters with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. She’s also joined a movie called Five Nights In May with Selma’s David Oyelowo.
