Comedian Eddie Murphy hasn’t been on Saturday Night Live in three decades, but he’s about to change that. The Beverly Hills Cop star said he’ll be back in Studio 8H for the show’s 40th anniversary.
Although Murphy could have been asked back to SNL to host, he hasn’t been back since 1984. But he told News One that he’s finally found time for the show and will make an appearance in the 40th anniversary special.
“It just never worked out where the timing was right for me to do it,” Murphy said. “They're having a 40th anniversary. ... I'm going to that. And that will be the first time I've been back since I left.”
Aside from that one hosting gig in 1984, he hasn’t been on the show since he ended his four-year stint as a cast member on the show 10 months earlier. When he was hired in 1981, he was just 19, making him one of the youngest SNL stars in its history.
SNL hasn’t confirmed the news yet. We will just have to tune in to the live special on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. on NBC to see if Murphy will really be there.
