After just two episodes with impressive ratings, Fox has renewed Terrence Howard’s Empire. The network also renewed the comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine and the Batman prequel Gotham.
Empire, which also stars Taraji P. Henson, scored the best rating for a freshman show this season on Jan. 7. It earned a 3.8 18-49 rating, tying it with ABC’s How To Get Away With Murder. That rating was even bigger than Gotham.
The series is overseen by The Butler team Danny Strong and Lee Daniels and stars Howard as the head of a record label and searching for someone to hand the business too. You can read our recap of the second episode here.
Gotham getting renewed should be no surprise. The Batman prequel series stars Ben McKenzie as Detective Jim Gordon and was developed by The Mentalist’s Bruno Heller. The series returned on Jan. 5 and the next episode airs on Monday. At the moment, Gordon is helping the Gotham Police Department to find an escaped deranged electrician (played by Christopher Heyerdahl).
Lastly, Fox has renewed Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which airs on Sundays. The two-time Golden Globe winner stars Andy Samberg as Detective Jake Peralta and was created by Parks and Recreation team Dan Goor and Michael Schur. Andre Braugher also stars as his chief.
