When the Denver Broncos and head coach John Fox agreed to mutually part ways after their shocking upset loss against the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday, many names rose to the top in way of possible replacement.

There was offensive coordinator Adam Gase, defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio and even the wild card of the group, former Bronco head-man Mike Shanahan.

Recently though, another blast from the past has surfaced: Gary Kubiak.

According to Jason La Confora of NFL Network, Kubiak will interview with the team this weekend. Also reported is that general manager John Elway is very interested in bringing Kubiak back to Denver.

Kubiak served as Elway's backup quarterback for the franchise from 1983 to 1991, via Pro Football Reference. While Elway carried the Broncos to three Super Bowl appearances during that span, Kubiak was there as a good friend and big-time help to the offense.

Shortly after he retired, Kubiak got into coaching. He was assistant coach for Texas A%M and the San Francisco 49ers from '92 to '94. In 1995 he rejoined the Broncos as offensive coordinator where he helped Elway to two Super Bowl Championships ('97 and '98).

He took his first head coaching job with the Houston Texans in 2006, seeing some success including the division championship in 2012. Last year he served as the Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator.

The job is likely down to two candidates at this point: Kubiak and current offensive coordinator, and Peyton Manning favorite, Adam Gase.
