The Saturday Night Live cast better be playing in tempo later this month, since J.K. Simmons is hosting on Jan. 31.
The news was first reported by People and later confirmed on the SNL Twitter page.
Simmons will be joined by musical guest D’Angelo. The R&B singer surprisingly released his first album since 2000, Black Messiah in December. It was released online on Dec. 15, after drummer Questlove hosted a listening party.
As for Simmons, the hosting gig comes just after he received the first Oscar nomination of his career. He gave an acclaimed performance as a jazz teacher in Whiplash, opposite Miles Teller. He is expected to win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor and already won the Golden Globe.
The actor has been around for a long time, with roles on Oz and Law & Order and starred in Juno, but this is the first time he is finally getting his time in the spotlight.
Among his next projects is Kong: Skull Island.
