Jaycee Chan, the son of international superstar Jackie Chan, has been sentenced to six months in prison on drug charges. Chan was arrested back in August and indicted last month.
The 32-year-old actor was charged with providing a venue for others to purchase drugs. The Dongcheng District People's Court in Beijing convicted him on Friday, reports Xinhua.
In addition to the jail sentence, Chan will have to pay a fine of 2,000 yuan (around $326).
Chan confessed to the crime and said that he would not make the same mistake again.
“I violated the law. I deserve to be punished. When I return to society, I won't do it again,” Chan said in the courtroom, reports The Associated Press.
Chan was arrested in August with Taiwan movie star Ko Chen-tung. Police said they both tested positive for using marijuana and 117.7 grams of the drug were found in Chan’s apartment.
The arrest comes as China is trying to crack down on illegal drug use, especially among the affluent. It was also embarrassing for Jackie Chan, since he has been an international anti=drug ambassador since 2009. He said he was shamed by his son’s drug use.
