Johnny Depp is not a fan of actors becoming musicians, although he has dabbled in music himself. At his Mortdecai premiere in Berlin, he said it makes him sick that actors capitalize on their success by switching to music.

Depp, who has joined bands like Alice Cooper on stage at various venues, actually called it “sickening.”

“That whole idea for me is a sickening thing, it’s always just made me sick,” he said. “I’ve been very lucky to play on friends’ records and it’s still going. Music is still part of my life. But you won’t be hearing The Johnny Depp Band. That won’t ever exist.”

Sydney Morning Herald reports he’s also performed with Marilyn Manson and Oasis, as well as recorded with them. It hits theaters this Friday.

He said it cheapens the music when a well-known actor is the one performing it, saying people will see them in concert just because they’ve seen their faces on billboards.

"The kind of luxury now is, anybody with a certain amount of of success, if you have a kind of musical being, you can go out and start a band and capitalise on your work in other areas," he said. "But I hate the idea, 'come see me play the guitar because you've seen me in 12 movies.’”

"It shouldn't be (that way). You want the people who are listening to the music to only be interested in the music,” he added.

Mortdecai also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Olivia Munn, Ewan McGregor and Jeff Goldblum.
