Jury selection for former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez’s murder trial continued on Monday.
As previously reported, jury selection for the trial initially began last Friday at the Bristol County Superior Court. The process continued on Monday and will throughout the week before 18 jurors are chosen.
The Associated Press noted that by the end of the day on Tuesday, around 1,000 potential jurors are expected to have filled out the prospective juror questionnaires.
Jurors who have never heard of a particular case or do not know what certain cases are about are usually selected. However, many cases are so high profile that not hearing about them is almost unavoidable. Therefore, Superior Court Judge Susan Garsh said that some of the people reporting to the courthouse for jury duty could be selected even if they have heard about the case.
Hernandez will be standing trial for the murder of semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd in June 2013.
The athlete has plead not guilty.
The tentative start date for the trial is Jan. 20.
