Comedian Mike Myers is jumping back into television. The former Saturday Night Live castmemeber has signed a two-year overall deal with HBO.
Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming, announced the exclusive deal today. While no specific projects were revealed, Myers will be developing future projects for HBO under the deal.
“Mike Myers is one of the great comedy minds of this or any other era,” Lombardo said in a statement. “The opportunity to collaborate with a talent of his stature is tremendously exciting.”
“I’m thrilled to be at HBO,” Myers added.
Myers is best known for his smash hit Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and its two sequels, The Spy Who Shagged Me and Goldmember. He also voiced Shrek in DreamWorks Animation’s hit franchise. His film credits include Wayne’s World and So I Married An Axe Murderer.
The Toronto native entered comedy through Chicago’s famed Second City, where SNL’s Lorne Michaels discovered him. He debuted on the NBC show in 1989.
Myers’ career as a star has hit a snag in recent years, thanks to The Love Guru, but he’s clearly on the upswing. His directing debut, the documentary Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon, earned good reviews.
