Netflix is kicking off the winter Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena off with a bang. The streaming service, which is continuing to cement its status as a major player in the TV industry, announced launch dates for its anticipated new shows.
However, the first order of business was renewing Marco Polo for a second season. The historical drama, which stars Lorenzo Richelmy, hasn’t been met with the same critical praise that House of Cards received, but clearly enough people checked it out for it to earn a new season.
The second season will again feature 10 episodes.
Now on to the new shows. Up first is Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, the new Tina Fey-created series starring The Office’s Ellie Kemper in the title role. This was supposed to be on NBC, but Netflix picked it up in November for two full seasons. The first 13-episode season will start on March 6.
Bloodline, which stars Kyle Chandler and Linda Cardellini, will be up on March 20. The Sony Pictures production is about the Rayburn family and its emotional demons.
Marvel’s Daredevil, the first of several series Marvel and Disney have agreed to produce for Netflix, will begin on April 10. Charlie Cox stars as Matt Murdock, the blind title hero.
On May 8, Grace and Frankie will begin. This comedy stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as women whose lives are changed forever when their husbands begin to fall in love with each other. Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston co-star.
