Reports have surfaced that the Cleveland Browns and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan have agreed to part ways.
ESPN.com noted that a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed the news of his departure.
FoxSports.com reported that multiple sources have said the 35-year-old coordinator sat down with team owner Jimmy Haslam Wednesday and asked that he be released from his contract. According to the sources, Haslam granted his request.
When he was 28, Shanahan became the youngest coordinator in the NFL after the Houston Texans promoted him. From 2010 to 2013, he was the coordinator alongside his father Mike Shanahan, who at the time was the head coach of the Washington Redskins. This past season, the offensive coordinator took the job with Cleveland.
Shanahan isn’t the only one out from Mike Pettine’s staff. Quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains has reportedly been fired.
The Browns had an interesting ’14 season regarding the quarterback position. Many fans were overjoyed when the team drafted former Texas A&M star Johnny Manziel. And, when starting quarterback Brian Hoyer struggled the team put in “Johnny Football,” believing that he just may be the savior. Instead, the 22-year-old’s off-the field antics stole more headlines than his play on the field.
Cleveland missed the playoffs again finishing 7-9 and last place in the AFC North, which really isn’t anything new for a team that has not made the postseason since 2002. So should all the blame have been put on Loggains or was he simply the scapegoat for what didn’t really pan out?
