When Outlander returns in April, the Starz series will definitely feature more moments for Claire and Jamie to be alone.
Yesterday afternoon was Starz’s turn at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, which means that Outlander fans finally got to hear how the show will develop in the second half of its first season. Starz also posted a new teaser, which promises a steamy return.
Outlander stars Caitriona Balfe as Claire, a World War II nurse mysteriously transported back to 1743 Scotland. While she is married to Frank (Tobias Menzies) in 1945, in the first half of the season, she had to marry Jamie (Sam Heughan) in 1743. It is based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon, who was on hand at TCA.
Gabaldon is a consultant on the series and she’s happy with how it has turned out so far. She’s currently writing a ninth book in the series.
“They’ve done beautifully. They've done much much better than I thought they would. I didn't think this was actually possible,” she told reporters, notes The Los Angeles Times.
While Starz is notorious for only letting shows run only a few seasons, Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said that he was confident that they could adapt all of Gabaldon’s books. He is “hopeful that we'll get through every book. We have plans to continue with the franchise.”
As for the characters within the show, Sam Heughan teased a new personality for Jamie. He told reporters that he’s “a lot less idealistic” this time around, notes TV Line.
“He’s discovering his place, he’s got new responsibilities,” the actor explained. “We’ll start to see the stubborn side and his pride. We’ll see the chinks in his armor.”
The first episode in the second half of season one will be told from Jamie’s perspective, but executive producer Ron Moore promised that this is a one-time thing. The remaining seven episodes will shift back to Claire’s point of view.
