Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman could find himself in a tough predicament in the days leading up to the Super Bowl.

The New York Daily News reports that Sherman and his girlfriend are expecting the birth of their first child within the upcoming week. Sherman's girlfriend has made the trip to Arizona and plans have been arranged in case she were to go into labor.

Sherman said that despite the preparations he doesn't expect his son to be born until sometime after the game.

"He's not supposed to come on Sunday," Sherman said during his final pre-Super Bowl press conference. "Obviously that would change some things, but I think he's going to be a disciplined young man and stay in there until after the game. He's going to do his father his first favor and stay in there another week or two."

While Sherman said he would not like to miss the birth of his first child, he did not give a definitive answer as to what he would do if the situation occured.

According to the Washington Post, Sherman's teammates said they understand if he chooses to miss the game for his son's birth.

"If he has to go be with his child, we'll understand," said linebacker KJ Wright. "Please go. We'll be OK."

The Seattle Seahawks will take on the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl on Feb. 1.
