A documentary about Scientology called Going Clear: Scientology & The Prison of Belief, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday, claimed Nicole Kidman’s cell phone was tapped into while she was married to Tom Cruise.

Mark “Marty” Rathbun, who is no longer involved with the controversial religion, spilled all about his years as church leader David Miscavige’s right hand man.

The Alex Gibney-directed documentary featured Rathburn revealing Kidman and Cruise’s relationship was never approved by church officials. A lot of the disapproval of Kidman came from her father being a psychologist, as Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard was famously suspicious of his fellow psychologists and psychiatrists.

NY Post reports the church wanted Cruise to get a divorce from Kidman so he would be more active in spreading their message. They did split in 2001 and as a result, he was more active in that regard.

Rathburn disclosed that while Cruise was living with Kidman in England for a year in the ‘90s to film Eyes Wide Shut, they wired the actress’ phone when Cruise told the church he was worried about her.

The church has responded to the documentary in a statement, saying “Their sources are the usual collection of obsessive, disgruntled former Church members kicked out as long as 30 years ago for malfeasance, who have a documented history of making up lies about the Church for money.”
