See why tipping should be banned in America (Video)

Tipping should be banned in the U.S., at least according to a new viral hit video from CollegeHumor.

The video, which has scored nearly 2 million views just since Monday, is hosted by Adam Conover and is part of his series, Adam Ruins Everything. Because, that’s exactly what he does in his videos. Here, he explains why tipping is an outdated idea.

With a list of sources popping up, Conover notes that the custom of tipping is actually a leftover habit from the Great Depression. At the time, restaurant owners decided to lower wages and tipping was introduced in the U.S. to help make sure servers could be paid enough to have a living wage. But why should that be the customer’s responsibility? Isn’t it the owner’s?

Conover also notes that a survey showed that better service doesn’t always mean a server will get a better tip.
