Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova to win the 2015 Austrailian Open and claim her 19th Grand Slam title.

The tennis superstar ended her run in the tournament with a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win against Sharapova in the final according to Fox Sports. Williams has now become the oldest women in history to win the Austrailian Open singles title at age 33.

"I'm so honored to be here tonight and to hold this 19th trophy (at) my favorite stadium," Williams said.

The New York Times reports that after her historic victory Williams delivered an emotional speech to the crowd about her journey to where she is now.

“Growing up,” she told the crowd in Rod Laver Arena, “I wasn’t the richest. But I had a rich family in spirit and support and standing here with 19 championships is something I never thought would happen. I went on the courts with just a ball and a racket and a hope, and that’s all I had.”

This marks the sixth time that Williams has won the Austrailian Open. With 19 Grand Slam titles, she is now tied for the third most all-time with Helen Wills Moody and is three away from tying Steffi Graf's record at 22.
