Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir don’t exactly scream “football,” but they will still be taking part in NBC Sports’ Super Bowl coverage. NBC Sports said that they will be contributing to the pre-game festivities.
The network announced that they will be stationed at the Tailgate Party to give viewers access to VIP events and interviewing celebrities, who also may or may not know anything about the game. Lipinski and Weir will also be offering their own thoughts about the Super Bowl.
“Having six hours of pregame coverage allows us to not only surround every aspect of the game, but also to cover the Super Bowl as the unparalleled event that it is,” Sam Flood, Executive Producer for NBC Sports & NBCSN, said in a statement. “We’re looking forward to Johnny and Tara bringing their fun perspective and style to the show.”
Flood is also producing the pre-game coverage.
Lipinski and Weir shot to sportscasting stardom thanks to their work on calling skating events at the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014. They also covered the Oscars for Access Hollywood and were named NBC Sports’ figure skating A-team in October. The duo will call skating events with Terry Gannon.
Super Bowl XLIX is between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks on Feb. 1.
