Last night, NCIS: Los Angeles returned to our screens and Callen ends up in danger when the building where he is investigating an arms dealer is taken over by terrorists who claim to be jihadists. However, because of blatant errors the terrorists make, such as putting a flag upside down when he knows no jihadist would ever do that, Callen knows there is more going on.
Sam, who had been outside during the situation, gets assistance when Deeks and Kensi come to help their team member. But when they see the entire building has been covered with a bomb, they realize they won’t be able to get help because then the terrorists would blow up the tower. Kensi and Deeks make a daring entrance into the area where the hostages are while Sam rushes to rescue to Callen.
Twists and turns bound in this episode and it was great to see the team focused on saving one of their own and having to rely on just themselves. For instance, Deeks has to hang from a building in order to make a phone call (even though Sam is able to use his phone inside at one point…how?) and Callen makes a decision that puts his life at risk.
Let’s take a look at the top ten best moments from last night’s episode “Spiral.”

[new page= Underwear]
10. Underwear
In one of those rare moments in the episode when the characters have time to talk about something else or tease each other, Nell and Eric are looking into the arms dealer’s purchases and realize he must have a girlfriend after he apparently purchases expensive lingerie. Eric is surprised that Nell knows how much the underwear there would cost and she asks him how else she’d know, leaving him speechless.

We know it is likely Kensi and Deeks are together, even though they don’t outright say it, but they still have the same banter they always do, which just makes me love them even more. Kensi is trying out meditation since she is supposed to find a new way to channel her emotions. Deeks begins to tease her by waving his hand in front of her face and, well, let’s just say Kensi is very skilled in taking down her opponent without even moving.

[new page= Hetty’s call]
8. Hetty’s call
At one point, after discovering that there is a bioweapon in the tower where her team is, Owen and Hetty discuss having to call in reinforcements. But doing that would endanger her team and Hetty tells him that if anyone will do it. It shows the huge responsibility she feels for Sam, Callen, Deeks, and Kensi, and that she will take control if she needs to. The clip below shows the team discovering the building is wired for explosion.

7. Dangling
Because the terrorists used jamming devices to keep people from making calls, Deeks has a hard time sending photos to Nell to try and defuse the bomb that is inside the building. He makes the decision to hang out the window and he holds up his phone in an effort to reach her. All the while, he has to be careful so the terrorists don’t realize what he is up to.

[new page= Saving the doctor]
6. Saving the doctor
Callen had been trying to escape from the group when he notices that one of the hostages, who is a doctor at the tower, is being taken to a room where she will be killed. Under his disguise as a mail man, Callen shows himself and offers himself as the next person to be executed. But before they shoot him, Sam saves his life.
[new page= Double cross]
5. Double cross
Sam gets a call from Eric, who tells him the doctor is not who she says she is and that she is actually part of the plan that is in place at the tower. She plans on taking the bioweapon with her and she ends up smashing one of the vials as Callen is still inside the containment room. He immediately closes the door to keep Sam and everyone else safe. The scene below shows Sam and Callen finding out about the bio weapon before they know the doctor isn’t who she claims to be.
[new page= Disarm]
4. Disarm
After a wounded security guard creates a distraction to keep a terrorist, who has a bomb strapped to his chest with his finger pressed on the trigger to switch it off, Deeks rushes to the bomb to disarm it. But then he is worried he can’t remember which order to do it in. He looks to Kensi, who whispers “Trust your training.” Deeks is able to calm down and disarm the bomb.
[new page= Group zen]
3. Group zen
Deeks and Kensi meditate at the end of the episode, with Deeks making jokes that sound inappropriate. Eric and Nell arrive and surprise Kensi by joining them during their group zen.
[new page= Singing]
2. Singing
Callen wakes up at a hospital to see Sam there. He is in a CDC facility after receiving treatment for the bioweapon. Apparently, the arms dealer they were after had created an antidote for the virus. Callen talks about regrets as Sam threatens to sing to him.
[new page= Peek-a-boo]
1. Peek-a-boo
Sam and Callen are on their own clearing the floors in the building when they come up with a plan to ambush the terrorists. Using a timer on one of the phones, they lure the terrorists to an elevator shaft, where Sam is waiting.
