Top 10 moments from ‘The Fosters’: “Stay”
The latest episode of The Fosters focused on Callie Jacobs not catching a break and the system never truly helping a foster kid.
Her Girls United friend, Kiara called her in the middle of the night because foster kids in the house were being held at gun point. Bad things just keep happening to good people.
Mariana and Jesus are both keeping lies.
Mariana is lying to her boyfriend while Jesus is keeping the secret about Ana.
Wyatt comes back for Callie or so he says. Callie pours her heart out on everything that is going on. He offers her an out.
Brandon and Jesus are advised to go to an Alateen meeting because they can use it.
Stef feels powerless and is frustrated because she feels that she can’t help the kids.
Lena is given her job back at the school and Monty the Principal gives her an assignment of getting the teacher Timothy to change his curriculum.
This episode like every episode of The Fosters is dramatic and always gives us something to learn from the story. Maia Mitchell is glorious as our Callie Jacobs. She gives her such depth and she plays the damaged survivor really well. The whole cast is superb in telling their stories though I notice each week I have a different feeling on who gives a better performance. Though Maia Mitchell is dear to my heart and stands out every week almost or at least every week to me I have to give Teri Polo props this week. Teri made you feel her frustration this week. She took that strong female, cop and mother and made her feel weak and powerless. It showed superbly in her work.
This weeks performer of the week on The Fosters is Teri Polo who plays Stef Foster.

10. Callie can’t catch a break
Callie Jacobs is a tough cookie. The system has failed her many times. She’s had to endure terrible foster homes, stints in jail, being ripped away from her brother, and now, just when she thought she had found a way out of that system and into a stable, loving home, she’s pulled back in by way of her biological father, Robert Quinn.
To put salt in her wounds, Callie is informed that some of her credits from previous schools won’t transfer over and she may not be able to graduate. The girl can’t catch a break. Callie is frustrated. Stef and Lena are frustrated. We’re all frustrated.

9. Mariana scores high on test
Mariana is a genius in math, but she fears that if her beau finds out how smart she is, he’ll get scared off. Luckily, Lena intervenes and reminds Mariana that he should love the math genius who also loves pink nail polish. She should never have to make herself seem smaller than what she is and pretend to be someone she isn’t. Mariana finally comes clean to her beau, who is totally cool with it.

8.The system just sucks
Callie’s friend Kiara from Girls United calls in the middle of the night. Callie brings Stef up to speed and asks her to help her friend. Kiara’s foster parents have let a drug addict into the house, and he’s holding them at knifepoint. Stef, backed by the San Diego police, diffuses the situation and gets Kiara to safety for the evening and brings her back to her house.
Later, Lena and Stef have a conversation with Kiara’s case worker, who tells them what they already know: No, Kiara’s placement isn’t ideal, but there’s nowhere else to put her—Kiara has to go back. Stef calls out Child Protective Services, for approving unqualified foster parents solely for monetary incentives. Sadly, there’s nothing to be done—it’s just how the system works.

7. Stef is angry too
Stef wants to get Kiara’s foster house to be blown off the map. First, she and Mike go visit the couple to get them to say they’re dealing drugs; it fails and Stef’s anger goes off the charts nearly getting her and Mike in trouble. When Stef gets he sh** together, she realizes she can attack the couple from a different angle: their landlord. Stef and Mike alert him to the drug dealing in his apartment and wave their shiny badges around hoping it will help. The couple is evicted and the foster house closes its doors.
While Stef is fighting the system with everything she has, Callie is attempting the same. To prevent Kiara from running away, Callie brings her to the center where she attends group therapy, a place that also provides legal aid and counseling for foster kids. Unfortunately, Callie’s plan to get Kiara removed from an unsafe home is stopped before it can even really begin. Kiara’s paperwork will take weeks; she’ll be placed on a waiting list. There is nothing they can do for her in the immediate future. So Callie is frustrated.

6. Wyatt is back
Wyatt’s back! He’s still a little raw with heartbreak, but he still cares for Callie and after hearing all her current problems, he offers a solution. She can run away with him (again).
We all don’t want Callie to run, but she does show up to see him as he is getting ready to leave. She has two gifts for him. She tells him that she is staying and she feels he should too. She tells him that he should stay for himself and nobody else. She tells him that he should finish school.

5. Kiara runs
Callie should have given Kiara the same advice she gave Wyatt. It turns out both Stef’s and Callie’s attempts to help didnt help after all and Kiara decides it would be better to take her chances on the streets than in another foster home. She leaves a note telling them that she was leaving.

3. Jesus secret
Jesus goes to his biological mother Ana’s AA meeting because he wants to see what she is up to. When he walks in from the back where nobody can see him, he over hears Ana sharing with the group. He doesn’t go all the way in. He stands on the side to listen. It seems that he hears Ana is pregnant. He quickly shuffles out. Ana is never the wiser and doesn’t know he was even there.
Jesus ends up telling Hayley, his girlfriend. He tells her to keep it a secret because he doesn’t want Mariana to find out yet.

2. Brother bonding
The brothers, Brandon and Jesus are politely asked to attend an Alateen meeting by their mothers because they need it. The two make a quick detour for pizza and bonding. As they sit there talking, they realize they both have done not so good things. They chalk this up to the fact that their moms could be right. Due to the fact they both have parents that are alcoholics, they should go to this meeting because it may help them in some way.

1. Callie volunteers
The episode, thankfully, doesn’t end on a sad note. Callie meant it when she said she would keep trying. She takes her anger, frustration and sadness then decides to do something good with it. She volunteers at the center in order to make up her school credits and graduate on time. With everything Callie has been through, she can see herself helping other kids like herself. She wants to help make a difference in another persons life.
