Usually after a strong premiere, a show will see its ratings drop. But Fox’s Empire continues to go against the grain. The show is actually gaining each week so far.

Back on Jan. 7, the Terrence Howard-starring series debuted to an astonishing 3.8 18-49 rating, tying with How To Get Away With Murder for the highest-rated premiere of the 2014-15 season. Ratings actually grew last week and rose again last night.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the show jumped 8 percent in the key demo from last week, earning a 4.3 rating, which is huge.

Amazingly, the episode’s overall audience reached 10.9 million viewers.

The series is also drawing more viewers for its lead-in, American Idol. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the singing competition was up over last week with a 3.3 18-49 rating.

Tonight, Fox will find out if it can keep the hot streak going with Rainn Wilson’s Backstrom, which airs after another new Idol episode.

As for Empire, which was already renewed for a second seas, its own test will come in two weeks. Then, it will have to face new episodes of Black-ish and Modern Family on ABC.

The series stars Howard as a record executive searching for the heir to his company. Taraji P. Henson co-stars.
