Every child dreads the birds and the bees talk, the insatiably awkward coming of age chat that is horrible for both child and parent. So, how do you think it feels when your mother comes to visit after having sent you away as a child and all she wants to talk about it why you aren’t having sex with your husband? Better yet, why your lack of having sex is affecting an entire kingdom. Mary knows. And since Scotland is on the line, tittering between the potential rule of either Mary or Elizabeth, she asks Francis to help her. Help meaning have sex with her even though she secretly/not so secretly is into Prince Conde.
Bash is once again off to attempt to save the medieval world, one strange witch/ghost/living dead story at a time. Meanwhile, Kenna grows all the more close to the Prince of Navarre, whose brother was killed by Bash. She somehow hasn’t realized that he’s only using her to destroy Bash or she is actively trying not to believe it.
Mary and Francis try to have sex for the first time since the rebels raped Mary, but he can’t do it. He wants to wait for Mary to want to do it because she loves him, not to want to do it because she needs to secure her place as queen. He realizes that Mary also is trying to keep herself from straying towards Conde and forbids her to see him. Why can’t they just go back to being obsessed with each other? Life was so much better back then.
At this point, I’m just trying to figure out how much longer I can take them being apart, how much longer Francis can. He seems to be growing closer to Lola (she did tell him he was a fantastic kisser), which will ruin everything. I just can’t believe that Mary is over Francis. It’s impossible.
And speaking of love spats, Bash has finally had enough of Kenna and Prince Navarre’s flirtations. But, Kenna wants more than what she has with Bash. She has always wanted more than her means (hello, remember when she dated King Henry?). She loves Bash, but he’s never around and she’s always left alone in the castle.
Mary’s mother finally explains why she’s been so critical of Mary and so insistent on an heir. She is dying and there is nothing to be done about it. But Mary assures her, she’s been on foreign land, alone, for years, she knows how to survive and how to thrive while doing so.
Kenna receives a wedding proposal from Prince Navarre. For once, he actually seemed genuine. Maybe he really does care for her. Grier, on the other hand, is so desperate for money she agreed to be a pimp to the prostitutes she has befriended.
Conde has also been offered the opportunity of a lifetime- the chance to be a king. Queen Elizabeth has summoned his for some soft of tryout to see if she would consider marrying him. But, Mary has just offered him the chance to come with her to Scotland and start a new life. Juggling two women has never been such a royal pain in the heart.
Will he chose love or power? And if he chooses power, will Francis and Mary have a second shot?
I guess we’ll see Mar. 12:
