Another fan favorite television show has been cancelled and this time is it the ABC Family series Melissa and Joey. The show stars Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence, with their characters sharing the actors’ first names.
According to The Wrap, the series will be finished after four seasons. The Programming and Development executive vice president Karey Burke made a statement to The Wrap, saying “We are proud of the milestones Melissa and Joey has achieved, being the network’s first sitcom to reach 100 episodes and the network’s first comedy to win a People’s Choice Award.”
The end of the show’s third season saw Joe go from being the “manny” to an employee and, finally, to Mel’s husband. They went through balancing their new roles as a married couple in addition to their careers and raising Joe’s daughter, Dani.
The show’s midseason finale will air on Wednesday, March 18, which also marks the show’s 100th episode.
E! News reported the show’s premiere brought in 2.2 million viewers when it aired back in Aug. 2010, but it has dipped in ratings to under 1 million viewers.
Burke stated, “Now that the kids are grown and Mel and Joe have married and are looking towards starting a family, it seemed like a natural time to bring the series to a close. We are grateful to Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence, and the whole cast and crew who worked so hard on this successful show.”
Both starts of the show tweeted the news to their fans on social media.
