Have you had a hankering to watch metal robots fight each other in a ring? Well, if so, ABC has some good news for you. The network is reviving BattleBots and will have episodes ready for this summer.
The revived BattleBots will comes from Whalerock Industries and original series creators Ed Roski and Greg Munson. Whalerock has a deal with MGM Television, which will distribute the new series internationally.
In the series, engineers will have their homemade robots fight to the heath in the ring to determine a winner. The tournament will run six episodes and robots of similar weight will compete in weight classes. Winners will receive a cash prize.
The original BattleBots only ran from 2000 to 2003 and since then, there have been a lot of changes in robotics. So, the new series will bring fans up to date, highlighting the best of robotics in 2015. The series will also focus more on what it takes to design and built the competing bots. Each builder will also get a chance to tell their stories.
ABC didn’t post a premiere date, but you can bet Disney will try to figure out some way to work a Big Hero 6 mention or two in there.
