Just one day after his farewell in New York, it appears that Amar’e Stoudemire will not be on the market after he clears waivers and will sign with the Dallas Mavericks.

League sources have told ESPN that as expected, Stoudemire will sign with the Mavs and hopefully compete for an NBA championship.

As previously reported, the 32-year-old and his former team agreed to a buyout, which Stoudemire was open to because he wanted to play for a contender.

No official word will come down though until he clears waivers on Wednesday.

The Phoenix Suns, the team he started his career with, and the Los Angeles Clippers were also reportedly interested in the veteran.

In Dallas, Stoudemire will join former New York Knick center Tyson Chandler and will be a strength off the bench who can back up power forward Dirk Nowitzki.

Stoudemire’s tenure in New York was plagued by injuries and no one can forget his boneheaded move of punching a fire extinguisher case during the 2012 playoffs. With the Mavs though, he now gets a fresh start.
