The FX/FXX comedy series brand has proudly established itself on oddly, surrealism and/or wacky banter. These traits are clearly evident and established through shows like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Louie and now Man Seeking Woman, to name a few. So it shouldn't be too surprising to see their latest sitcom The Comedians, starring Billy Crystal and Josh Gad, go all out on the weirdness in its first teaser.

The promo highlights on the premise of the series, which shows Crystal and Gad embodying hyper-real version of themselves as they make an FX series. In between shots of Gad eating ham in his dressing room and Crystal and Gad talking to FX executives are sequences where Gad gets attacked by a bear in Crystal's living quarters and Gad dressed as a man baby retrieving his dialing phone from his diaper. It would seem with those descriptions, of course, that the show creators are going broad and also surreal in its meta comedy.

In truth, The Comedians comes across as a more extreme version of Curb Your Enthusiasm, which isn't shocking as long-time Curb writer/director Larry Charles directed and executive produced the pilot. Of course, however, this is just a mere 30-second teaser, so it's hard to get a firm grasp on this show with just a limited look.

So that means FX fans have to determine what they think of The Comedians for themselves when it premieres April 9, the same day Louie's fifth season begins.
