Byron Cowart, the No. 1 high school football player in the ESPN 300, has officially committed to Auburn University.

Yahoo reports that the 6-foot-4, 258-pound defensive end from Florida made his announcement to attend Auburn on Wednesday morning. Cowart's final school choices were between Auburn and the University of Florida.

According to ESPN, Cowart will provide a big boost for the Tigers who struggled on defense this past season. Auburn finished in the bottom five in the SEC in points allowed, total yards allowed, passing yards allowed, and rushing yards allowed. Cowart is expected to be a welcome addition with his size and athleticism.

"Cowart is an athletic, physical and -- at times -- very explosive defender who should enhance his stock depending on physical development and improved awareness skills," his scouting report reads.

Cowart recorded 11 sacks and 21 tackles for loss during his senior season at Armwood High School. Armwood has reached the 6A State championship game each of the last two years.
