CBS is moving forward with a TV series adaptation of Limitless, and the network has just hired a new director for the pilot.
According to Deadline, The Amazing Spiderman’s Marc Webb has been hired to direct the Limitless pilot. He will be replacing Neil Burger, director of the original film who was originally set to return for the pilot. Burger apparently dropped out due to scheduling problems, but he will be remaining on the show as an executive producer. Bradley Cooper, star of the original film, will also executive produce alongside Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
Limitless will revolve around Brian Sinclair, a new character different than the one played by Cooper in the movie, as he uses his mind-enhancing drug to solve cases for the FBI. The show seems to be following the same general premise of the movie but functioning as its own thing. There’s no word on casting yet, but the series will not star Bradley Cooper, according to Screen Rant.
Marc Webb is known for directing films such as 500 Days of Summer, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He is currently attached to direct The Amazing Spider-Man 3, though that franchise is somewhat up in the air right now after the disappointing performance of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Limitless was released in 2011 and was a pretty big success, making $161 million on a $27 million budget according to Box Office Mojo. It was based on the idea of a pill that allows the main character to use 100% of his brain, a pretty dumb premise that still made for a fun, crowd pleasing movie. It remains to be seen if the series can live up to the movie and not become just a generic crime show, and if audiences will be as interested in the property without the presence of Bradley Cooper.
