On this week's episode of Chasing Life, Greer makes a shocking confession to Brenna, April and Leo fight, and April breaks a huge story at The Post.
The episode opens at the hospital where April meets a young boy named Julian. Julian is familiar with April's work and asks her out. He also admits he has cancer. Sara shows up just as April's name is called and Julian wonders why her mom comes to her checkups when his doesn't. When April sees Dr. Hamburg, she's still cancer free. When Dr. Hamburg asks if April has any further concerns, April has Sara leave the room. With Sara now gone, April asks if she's okay to have sex with Leo and Dr. Hamburg gives her the okay. When April walks out of the exam room, and Sara asks what she needed to speak about in private, she lies and says she talked with Dr. Hamburg about her boyfriend. Sara points out that Dr. Hamburg is married, so April lies again, saying her doctor is having an extra-marital affair.
Cue opening theme.
At the Charles, April and Beth discuss her recent visit to the doctor and her okay to have sex with Leo. Beth helps her celebrate by giving her a box of condoms.
At school, Brenna and Ford check out cute girls. They notice a blonde with purple streaks in her hair and are surprised to learn it's Greer. Greer says she wanted a change and is done kowtowing to her parents when they're never around.
At work, April ignores a phone call while in the elevator with Danny and Dominic, prompting them to tease her about Leo. Later, April hears a co-worker talking about an exclusive story on baseball player, Richie Miranda, whom she previously interviewed and offers to help. Her boss, Aaron is not too thrilled, but considers the possibility.
Later, April meets up with Leo and lets him know that everyone will be out of the Carver house and they should take advantage of that. They run into Julian again and he asks to be featured in April's "cancer column," so he can "impress" a cute, older girl at school. April promises to talk to her boss, Aaron for him.
Back at home, April rushes Brenna and Sara out of the house so she and Leo can have some intimate time.
The next morning, April tries to sneak Leo out of the Carver house without Sara knowing. April makes a weak excuse about why he stayed over, though Sara doesn't seem to buy it. When April rushes out, Sara makes Leo breakfast and they chat more about Leo's career path.
At school, Greer continues her newfound rebellious streak in health class and earns an after-school detention.
Meanwhile, at work, April continues to offer backup to her co-worker on the Richie Miranda story and adds in a bet to make the offer more interesting. The loser has to bring the winner Vietnamese tacos every day for a week. Her co-worker is persuaded and decides to see her bet.
At her office, Sara has a meeting with a client that's interrupted by a fellow psychologist. He's upset that someone stole his parking spot.
Meanwhile, April gets a call from Julian who's thrilled to have scored a date with the cute, older girl he's trying to impress and asks if April can interview him while he's on his date.
At the tattoo parlor, Brenna, Ford, and Kieran talk while they work. Greer shows up, having ditched detention, and invites Brenna to a spontaneous getaway to her parents' place in Nantucket.
Simultaneously, Leo visits his dad at a construction site and says he needs money for his monthly expenses. While on the site, Leo runs into an old classmate from junior high, who's surprisingly well off. A few moments later, Leo's dad says his money will be in his account the following day.
Beth and April pick an outfit for her interview. Back, at the tattoo parlor, Greer and Kieran get into a scuffle when Greer says she wants a tattoo and he is hesitant to fulfill her request. When Kieran pulls Brenna aside, they both express their fears at Greer's recent behavior rather indiscreetly, causing Greer to storm out when she overhears them saying she's gone "psycho."
Meanwhile, Sara gets a visit from an unexpected new client.
Brenna tries to reason with Greer after Ford and Kieran bail. With the others gone, Brenna gets Greer to open up. Greer confesses that she's been on medicine for anxiety and depression and has decided to stop taking them. Greer also says that she's not supposed to drink alcohol while on her meds, meaning Natalie didn't drug her in Florida. Brenna is receptive to Greer's revelation.
April and Leo go to a party where April plans to interview Richie before she leaves to see Julian. Leo ventures off to get drinks and April convinces Richie's agent to grant her access to his client. He agrees and Richie emerges a few moments later, shocked to see April again. Meanwhile, Leo is approached by another man at the bar who recognizes him as Bruce Hendrie's son.
April gets to sit down one-on-one with Richie who is extremely apologetic when he learns she has cancer. When April tries to score the actual interview, Richie's girlfriend interrupts, asking him to dance. At the same time, April gets a text from Julian asking her to hurry up and make it to his interview.
Meanwhile, Brenna, Greer, and Kieran continue to open up with each other. Brenna confesses that she had an abortion following a hookup gone wrong after her dad's death and that Ford accompanied her to the clinic, leading to the start of their friendship. Still on the subject of secrets, Kieran shows the girls a tattoo he got when he had a crush on his English teacher.
Back at the party, April's co-worker is also unsuccessful at getting Richie to talk, leading to an alteration of their bet. When April calls Leo, so they can leave to go see Julian, she finds him with Richie and they're doing drugs. April pulls Leo aside to confront him and they wind up getting into a huge fight. April says she could include Leo in the story about Richie should she choose to write it. Leo counters by saying he's tired of being viewed as Bruce Hendrie's son. April wonders if they'd even be together if they both never had cancer. She's also mad that she disappointed Julian, because of Leo.
The next morning, April apologizes to Julian for missing her interview with him via text message. Later, she runs into Dominic while getting coffee at the local newsstand and they chat for a little while. She tells Dominic about her inadvertent discovery about Richie and her current ethical dilemma about writing on a story on his drug habit. Dominic reminds her that being a journalist means telling the truth, no matter how difficult.
At Sara's office she has another encounter with the psychologist whose office is next door to hers and this one is much less confrontational.
Back at work, April and the others watch a news cast on her story about Richie and her boss, Aaron seems pleased, though April is seemingly less thrilled.
