Disney is bringing back DuckTales, the beloved animated series that was heavily influenced from Carl Barks’ iconic Duck universe comics. A reboot of the Emmy-winning series will air on Disney XD in 2017.

All of the original characters will be back, including Scrooge McDuck and Donald Duck’s nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie. Launchpad McQuack will be back to fly them around Duckburg, while the Beagle Boys will still be around to annoy the Ducks.

DuckTales has a special place in Disney’s TV animation history, it drew its inspiration from Disney Legend Carl Barks’ comic books and through its storytelling and artistic showmanship, set an enduring standard for animated entertainment that connects with both kids and adults,” Marc Buhaj, Senior Vice President, Programming and General Manager, Disney XD, said in a statement. “Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation.”

Last fall, the Disney team proved that it still remembers DuckTales with a hilarious video that featured real ducks re-enacting the amazing DuckTales theme song. That video has now been seen over 6.1 million times and hopefully convinces Disney that the theme song needs to stay the way it is.

Hopefully the new series will mean that the original show, which ran from 1987 to 1990, will finally be completely available on DVD. While three DVD sets have been released - along with the movie DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp - there are enough remaining episodes for a fourth set. Cross your fingers.
