Former Will & Grace star Eric McCormack could be back on TV again after a short absence. He will star in the Fox dramedy pilot Studio City.
Fox ordered the pilot late last month. It was created by Shameless writer Krista Vernoff and will be executive produced by John Wells, who also works on Shameless. It is a Warner Bros. TV production.
The pilot is about a young female singer who wants to be a huge star, but is stuck living with her songwriter father. Deadline reports that McCormack will star as the father, who is also a drug dealer.
McCormack recently wrapped up a three-season run as the star of TNT’s Perception. The show was cancelled in November 2014. Last week, McCormack told a fan on Twitter that there was an attempt to save the show, but it didn’t work out.
McCormack is best known for his role on Will & Grace and was recently seen on his former co-star Debra Messing’s The Mysteries of Laura on NBC. He was nominated for five Emmys for Will & Grace.
He also isn’t the only former sitcom star hoping to make a comeback with a Fox pilot. Full House’s John Stamos is starring in an untitled comedy about a ladies’ man who finds out he’s a grandfather.
