Winnepeg Jets forward Evander Kane was traded to the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday in a seven player trade.

In addition to Kane, the Sabres also received defenseman Zach Bogosian and goalie prospect Jason Kasdorf. The Jets received defenseman Tyler Myers, right wing Drew Stafford, a first-round draft pick for 2015, and two quality prospects, according to USA Today. The two prospects are 2014 second-round pick Brendan Lemieux and forward Joel Armia.

"I'm excited about what this trade brings to our organization," Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff said. "At the end of the day it is a big deal but we think it's something that's going to help us both in the short-term and really help us in the long-term."

Kane was a healthy scratch from the Jets game on February 3. He has decided to have season-ending surgery on his left shoulder. In 37 games this season he had ten goals and 12 points, according to the Associated Press. Myers has 151 points in six seasons. In nine seasons with the Sabres Stafford has scored 145 goals and has 177 assists.

Myers could be more helpful offensively than Bogosian. Stafford can help with secondary scoring. The trade will let the Jets move Dustin Byfuglien back to his preferred position on defense.
