Former NFL player and NFL Hall of Famer, Warren Sapp, was arrested around 7 am Monday for trying to solicit a prostitute.
The 42-year-old defensive tackle was in Phoenix covering the Super Bowl for NFL Network, TMZ Sports reports.
He has been charged with one count of solicitation and two counts of assault, according to ABC 15 Arizona.
Police report that Sapp met up with two female escorts in the lobby of a Phoenix hotel. They later went up to his hotel room where a physical altercation broke out over money that continued into the hallway of the hotel at around 2:30 am.
Phoenix Police reported that the two women contacted the policed and allegedly suffered minor injuries due to a struggle.
One of the women was cited for prostitution and released. The other woman was located after previously leaving the scene. She was cited for violating the city’s requirement that escorts have a permit and was released, ABC 15 Arizona reports.
The former Oakland Raiders player has since admitted to being involved in prostitution, but has denied assaulting the women, TMZ notes.
There is no word on whether Sapp will lose his job at NFL Network, however, he was suspended indefinitely without pay until further investigation is conducted, a spokesperson for the network says.
This isn’t the first arrest for Sapp, who played 13 seasons in the NFL. Sapp was arrested for domestic battery in 2010, although charges were dropped. He was also arrested for an alleged domestic battery incident last year in Miami, New York Post notes.
