Helen Mirren attended the premiere of her film Woman in Gold at the Berlin Film Festival with her co-star Ryan Reynolds on Monday night where she took a tumble on the red carpet.
Wearing a green, lace Dolce & Gabbana gown with a scalloped train, Mirren was walking up a flight of small stairs when she fell. She did fall with grace as a nearby man helped her up and she joked to the photographers, “Thank you very much for taking that photo.”
Huffington Post UK notes Mirren, 69, plays Maria Altmann, a Jewish survivor from WWII on a quest for her family’s artwork. She believes the government is in possession of the Gustav Klimt painting, which ended up in Austria and was stolen by the Nazis, and demands it be returned.
Woman in Gold also stars Daniel Bruhl, Katie Holmes, Charles Dance, Tatiana Maslany and Frances Fisher.
The Irish Independent reports at the press conference, Mirren said of the story, “I was very struck by the story. And then once I started getting to work on it, I had the great pleasure of getting to know Maria Altmann through the material, who is such a remarkable, wonderful, funny, sexy, witty, humane and a great woman.”
