Helena Bonham Carter may have a phobia of fish, but she still posed naked with a big tuna for a good cause. She joined a group of celebrities to raise awareness of U.K. seas and wildlife.
The photos were taken for The Blue Marine Foundation, which is pushing for the U.K. government to create marine reserves around Ascension Island, the Pitcairn Islands and South Georgia. Including the U.K.’s Overseas Territories, the country oversees the world’s fifth largest marine zone.
“We all have a responsibility to try and return our world to the next generation in the state we inherited it in, not worse,” Bonham Carter said in a statement. “It would be a sad thing if in our dotage we’d be describing a tuna fish to our grandchildren like we a dodo today.”
Actresses Gillian Anderson and Greta Scacchi also posed for the foundation. Bonham Carter said it was Scacchi who asked her to show her support.
“I am a big supporter of protecting the marine environment,” she said. “I’m actually very phobic about fish so when Greta [Scacchi] asked me to be photographed naked with a 27kg tuna I was more worried about touching it than getting my kit off.”
The photos were published by the Daily Mail.
Of course, other campaigns have called for celebrities to pose nude. PETA’s campaign is the most well-known and now features singer Pink.
