Invader Zim was one of the greatest and strangest Nickelodeon shows of all time, gaining something of a cult following since it went off the air in 2002. Now, fans will get to see more of the story after all.

According to Kotaku, Oni Press will publish an Invader Zim comic series starring this July, the publisher announced at the ComicsPro retailer convention.

Creator of the show Jhonen Vasquez will be involved in the creation of the comic, saying in the press release that Invader Zim never stopped running in his head, and now he hopes to bring that joy of continued Zim adventures to the fans.

Oni Press originally teased the announcement last week by posting this image on Twitter, naturally leading Zim fans to completely freak out in anticipation.

Invader Zim, which followed an alien who comes to Earth in an attempt to enslave humanity, originally aired on Nickelodeon from 2001 to 2002. Only one season was aired on the network, with the show's second season pulled and never broadcast until years later, according to IGN. It was cancelled due to low ratings, probably because the show was so freaking weird. Zim was intended for an older audiences than other Nickelodeon shows, and the content was often pretty dark and strange. One episode, "Dark Harvest," was all about Zim harvesting the organs of other students at school. And this show aired on the same network as Rugrats.

The show never actually had an ending, so we can assume the comics would pick up with Zim continuing his plans to enslave humanity. It's pretty exciting to finally be getting some more content after 13 years, and without the shackles of being on Nickelodeon Zim can get even weirder than it already was, which we can't even imagine.

Invader Zim #1 will be released this July.
