HBO announced today that The Casual Vacancy, miniseries based on the bestseller by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, will debut in late April. The three-part series will air over two nights.
The BBC first commissioned a miniseries based on the book back in December 2012, just after the book was published. In April 2014, HBO announced that it was joined the project.
The Casual Vacancy stars Michael Gambon, Keeley Hawes, Rory Kinnear, Monica Dolan and Julia McKenzie. Abigail Lawrie makes her debut. A trailer was released earlier this week.
Rowling’s novel, which did not receive great reviews when it was released, centers on a fictional English village that looks nice on the outside, but its citizens face several challenges. There’s a war between the rich and poor, teens and parents and teachers and publips. Sounds like a fun place to visit.
This isn’t the only Rowling project to get a TV series. The BBC also ordered a series based on her Robert Galbraith crime novels, centering on Cormoran Strike.
The Casual Vacancy debuts on Wednesday, April 29 and Thursday, April 30 on HBO. It airs on the BBC on Feb. 15.
