Jane The Virgin begins with a flashback showing Rafael and Jane in two very different paths on their lives. Jane has a plan to go to the University of Miami instead of Iowa so she can get a teaching degree and she has her five-year planned laid out while Emilio gives his son a hard time for having no direction in his life.

Meanwhile, in the present, Jane and Rafael are registering for baby things when they both begin to wonder if they need to register for both of their places. A knock on the door reveals Michael, who has come to let Rafael know they have evidence linking Rose to being Sin Rostro. As Jane watches them talk, she imagines them in a telenovela and she is shocked as it appears they begin to slap each other until Michael says her name to get her attention.

Michael lets Rafael know he needs to talk to Luisa and finds out she is in the psychiatric hospital. Jane and Rafael realize they need to get her. Meanwhile, Luisa tells her roommate she wants to get out of the hospital herself. She has Rose’s pin that she stole from the last time they were together and is hopeful she can use it to escape. Luisa tells her roommate not to say anything (she hasn’t spoken in 12 years anyway) and mentions she should hate Rose for abandoning her at the hospital.

Jane tells Xiomara about Rose being a criminal. It reminds Xiomara about a soap and they wonder about Emilio’s whereabouts and tease each other about hiding the other if they were a criminal. A moody Rogelio comes in and reveals to the girls that he got a job offer in the area as a second lead to his rival, a man named Esteban. He is still unsure about the job in Mexico.

He tells Jane he is not sure about taking the job because of their newfound connection. She admits that as much as she’d like him to stay, she wouldn’t want him to put his career on hold. Jane goes to bed while Xiomara and Rogelio talk. He asks her what she wants him to do and while he wants her to tell him to stay, she says to do what would make him happiest and when she asks him in turn, he says “neither option is perfect.”

Meanwhile, Petra arrives at the Marbella, but a manager named Gabriel tells her that Rafael had her banned from the hotel. Upstairs, Jane hears Rafael talking to someone about wiring money and wonders if it is about his father. She asks him about the call and he says it was about Luisa, even though that was not the actual contents of the call. Rafael has to make another call and as she leaves, Petra comes in, much to her surprise.

Petra informs Rafael that her ex-boyfriend was the one who bought the company for her and she plans on making Rafael a silent partner. Meanwhile, Michael talks to the hotel staff and tells them to be careful of Emilio as Jane’s friend tries to discuss her baby shower. Jane apologizes to Michael for the interruption and he tells her that none of this is personal and he just wants everyone to be safe. Later, she is going down the hotel hallway when she sees Rafael closing the door to a room near his penthouse. Letting her curiosity take over, she knocks on the door, only to discover Roman Zazo.

A stunned Jane goes downstairs and bumps into Michael, where she tells him that she just saw Roman alive. They go upstairs and discover the man is actually Aaron Zazo, Roman’s twin brother. Michael asks Rafael to explain what is up and he informs Michael he had tried to find Aaron after Roman died and he had been kidnapped by a cartel. The story continues as Jane imagines it in the form of a telenovela. Aaron tells Michael he wants to know what happened to his brother.

Rafael talks to Jane, who apologizes and admits she thought it had something to do with Emilio, but he thinks she doesn’t trust him. He says they can talk later since he needs to go get Luisa. Meanwhile, Luisa herself is attempting to escape. She does so by using the best timing when a nurse is distracted by a cute guy. But when a nurse begins to see her, her roommate screams to draw attention to her. Luisa gets out just as Rafael arrives to pick her up. She is stunned and suggests they go in through the staff door she just left.

Luisa puts her stuff in the car and is still confused about why Rafael broke her out. When he reveals Rose is Sin Rostro, she is stunned and upset as she imagines Rose telling her she only killed people “who deserved it.” Rafael apologizes for not believing her.

Jane’s friend, Lina, is busy planning her baby shower and tells her she missed her despite what happened with Frankie being fired. They go through a checklist and Lina shows her a piece of paper talking about the parents of the baby, including who will do the disciplining.

Luisa is going through a box when she finds a letter from Rose. The letter tells Luisa a clue about her father’s whereabouts. Meanwhile, Jane goes to see Rafael to apologize for not trusting him. She tells him they did just meet and trust in one another takes time. After mentioning she doesn’t know his favorite song, he tells her it was “Livin’ on a Prayer.” Then he gets a phone call and soon, we see Luisa sitting in a pool as Jane, Rafael, and Michael look on. She tells Rafael that Rose said their dad was where “the fireworks started,” which is apparently where they had sex for the first time. She thinks she is sitting on top of their father.

The next morning, a stunned Rafael is sitting with Jane as he waits for word on whether they found his father. When the call comes with the news, Rafael gets up to make arrangements and to prepare for Petra to try and take over the hotel.

As this is going on, Michael interviews Luisa about her affair with Rose, where she goes into detail about when they met. She keeps mentioning them having sex over and over, until Michael asks her to skip ahead. Rose had talked about dating a man in order to close a deal and it turns out, this was Emilio. When they discovered each other, Rose tried to downplay it as being one last night with a woman while Luisa mentioned her girlfriend Allison (who, if you remember, is the wife who cheated on her and led her to be distracted before inseminating Jane).

Jane is on the phone with her mom, asking for her black dress for the funeral and telling her she is worried Rafael may not trust in her enough to open up. Xiomara says it can be hard for people to talk, as she sees Alba and Rogelio talking outside.

Luisa is in her hotel room and she goes to the mini bar, but it is empty. She gets a phone call and we see a woman from behind wearing a blonde wig as she answers. Luisa is upset, especially because Rose killed Emilio, and Rose asks if she still wants to run away together.

After the funeral, Jane checks on Rafael, who says he is okay and that Petra called a board meeting. He has to go talk to Luisa. After Jane leaves with her family, Rafael apologizes to Luisa and tells her about Petra owning the other third of the hotel that they both own as well. He wants her to give him her shares so he has power over Petra. Luisa is still hurt about being locked away and feels that money is the reason they went through all of this. She tells Rafael he can have her shares and that she needs time alone.

At home, Jane talks to her dad and finds out he is still unsure about Mexico and she wonders how her mom reacted. Since he doesn’t know, she decides to get her parents to discuss their feelings. She gets her mom to admit that she would be “bummed” if he left and Rogelio says he would be “devastated” to be away from Xiomara. They both admit they want to be together and kiss as Jane goes over to her grandmother, who is watching the show Rogelio will be on. Alba talks about being able to feel vulnerable around each other and Jane says Rafael doesn’t feel that way with her.

At the board meeting, Rafael is stunned to find out that Luisa signed her shares over to Petra. Rafael is taken aback and we find out Petra had overheard their earlier discussion and went over to Luisa to get her on her side. When he says it is “crazy,” Luisa tells her she only assigned Petra voting rights for when she is away and leaves as Petra tells them she will be the “new face of the Marbella.”

Petra is on her way to the elevator and is stunned when she sees who she thinks is Roman in the elevator. When he tells her who he is, she introduces herself and Aaron reveals Roman talked about her. She continues to look at him in complete shock as he leaves.

Rogelio tells Xiomara his agent was upset that he wouldn’t go to Mexico, but he didn’t care since he wanted to be with her. Xiomara reveals she has decided to break her vow of chastity and they begin to have sex.

Michael gets information from Nadine and he goes to see Rafael. He informs Rafael they began monitoring Luisa’s phone in case Rose tried to contact her. She had gotten a call to run away but said no, however, she just sent a text to an encoded number before disappearing.

Rafael goes back to the suite, where Jane has candles and Chinese take out ready. She tells him that she wants him to trust her and she is there for him and she tells him she loves him. He returns her love and reveals he has been trying to change how his father saw him as a disappointment. They hold each other close and the next morning, Jane wakes up to see Rafael there. They share a sweet moment together where Jane mentions they love each other and are having a baby together, so they should move in together. Jane has a stunned look on her face as the screen fades.
