The judge presiding over the Aaron Hernandez trial has granted the former New England Patriots’ fiancée immunity for her testimony.
ABC News has reported that Judge Susan Garsh granted Hernandez’s fiancée and mother of his child Shayanna Jenkins, immunity Tuesday.
Hernandez is standing trial for the murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player who was dating Jenkins’ sister at the time of his murder.
Shaneah Jenkins testified last week that her sister was acting strange and left the house carrying a trash bag the night her boyfriend was killed. Sports Illustrated noted that prosecutors said they believe Jenkins disposed of a .45-caliber gun in which they allege the former NFL star used during the commission the crime.
Even being granted immunity it does not mean Jenkins will definitely testify. She is facing several counts of lying to a grand jury about what occurred the night of Lloyd’s murder.
The victim was found shot to death at an industrial park near Hernandez’s home in June 2013. This is the first of two murder trials for the athlete. He has also been accused of shooting two men he allegedly had an altercation with outside a Boston nightclub.
Court was not held Monday or Tuesday due to the weather, but is expected to resume Wednesday.
