Kendrick Perkins has committed to signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers after reaching a buyout with the Utah Jazz.
According to Yahoo Sports, Perkins and the Jazz came to an agreement on Saturday allowing him to clear his waivers and join the Cavaliers as early as Monday. Perkins was traded to the Jazz right before the trade deadline from the Oklahoma City Thunder. He played in 0 games with the Jazz before finalizing the buyout.
ESPN reports that Cavaliers superstar forward LeBron James reportedly had a hand in recruiting Perkins to Cleveland. Perkins also had interest from the Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs, New Orleans Pelicans, and Los Angeles Clippers.
The Cavaliers' newest big man is expected to add size and interior defense coming off the bench behind center Timofey Mozgov. Cleveland has been in need for a solid center after Anderson Varejao tore his ACL earlier in the season. Analysts believe that the move will strengthen Cleveland as the team looks to make run for the NBA Finals. Perkins took to Twitter to express his excitement and was welcomed by James.
